Synopsis: Based on the novel by Maeve Binchy. Set in Ireland in the 1950s, a rites-of-passage story about a group of college students.Synopsis: Rites-of-passage drama. Set in Ireland in the 1950s. Nan, Eve and Bennie are friends. Nan introduces Bennie to Jack Foley, a medical student at college in Dublin. Jack and Bennie fall in love but their relationship is soured when Nan seduces Jack when he is drunk. Nan has fallen pregnant by Simon, a local landlord, who has told her he will not marry her. Nan convinces Jack he is the father of her baby and Jack feels forced into marrying her. Eve confronts Nan with her suspicions about her liaisons with Simon and Nan runs away to England. Jack finds himself free again and once more sets his sights on Bennie.
